headcanon: displays of affection (sweet pea and fangs fogarty)

note: requested by anonymous. the boys and how they are with affection, written both platonically and romantically cause i love friendship just as much as romance.
sweet pea
- not the most stereo typically affectionate person, never has been
- didn’t have the kind of upbringing where someone kissed his forehead every night or tucked him in, didn’t hear the words “i love you” frequently
- so when he joined the serpents and formed these bonds that he started to take so seriously he had to learn how to deal with all of the affection that would bubble up inside of him
- punching fangs on the shoulder with a grin, play fighting on good days while throwing teasing remarks around
- using toni as an arm rest with a little mischievous smirk, teasing her about her height and the little crushes she had as they grew up, but secretly always taking in every detail of her significant others, narrowing his eyes and making sure they were respectful and good enough for his friend (they weren’t, but he respected toni more and knew she could take care of herself)
- always wary of non serpents interacting with his friends, his shoulders would tense and his eyes would narrow. arms crossed defensively, always the person who took the longest to open up and get comfortable with newcomers
- when the two of you met and slowly descended into something warm and hazy, transitioning from two bickering acquaintances to fiercely loyal friends to a pair who stared at each other with affectionate eyes, sweet pea had to adjust all over again
- it wasn’t just sex, it was the urge to be close to you at all times, and somehow he had never felt like that for anyone before
- but despite how he felt he wasn’t one for pda, not like everyone around him
- he sure as fuck wouldn’t hold your hand, he’s never liked the way that felt, like he was putting his claim on your or trying to lead you in a certain direction
- but he’d toss his arm over your shoulder as you walked, reveling in the way you fit against his side and how good it felt when you wrapped your own arm around his waist
- when he leaves you in front of others he murmurs his goodbye, planting a kiss against your forehead before striding away
- trying not to look over his shoulder the way he wants to
- but when it’s just the two of you and his walls are completely down, his fingers intertwine with yours beneath the sheets, and he rests his head on your chest, his arms wrapped around your waist. you never expected him to be someone who likes to be held, but every so often you find yourselves in that position and you feel warm all over, running your fingers through his hair as the two of you talk about anything and everything
- it never bothers you that he’s different when it’s just the two of you
- he shows his love in public in subtle ways that make you light up every time; tugging on the ends of your hair to get your attention, sitting so close there’s no space between your legs, dropping his hand on your knee when you’re nervous and you can’t help but fidget
fangs fogarty
- fangs has never hesitated to tell the people around him that he loves them
- he’s felt loss just like most of the serpents have, and in his mind it just means he should hold onto the people around him while he can
- while sweet pea shows his love through his protectiveness and toni does through her advice and levelheadedness, fangs is the one who worries. it’s clear how much he cares when he grows overly concerned and his fingers start tapping rhythmically against surfaces
- he gives the best hugs, never hesitating to pull sweet pea into one, slapping pea on the back encouragingly or wrapping toni’s small frame into his big arms when she’s sad
- in a relationship he’s fairly open with his affection, always tugging you onto his lap when there’s no chairs or planting a kiss on your lips in greeting
- whenever you’re sitting next to him his hand is always stretched over your thigh. you learn all of his little quirks, catching him in moments of worry when his grip tightens or when your holding hands and he starts to fidget with your fingers
- and then it’s your touch that relaxes him; as soon as you slide a little closer and curl into him the tension eases out of him and he starts talking, expressing his worries so the two of you can talk it out
- when you started dating fangs his friends were wary, always so protective of one another
- but as soon as they saw that, the way fangs relaxed around you and the smile that lit up his face, they knew you were good for him
